Bill Grosse and Yardville modules move to WV

NJ Free-mo member Bill Grosse has moved to West Virginia, taking his outstanding Yardville modules with him. This means we may see less of Bill at Free-mo events in the area, but hopefully Bill will attend the Springfield show so we can catch up with him. Best of luck Bill, we appreciate what you did to help promote Free-mo and share many ground breaking design ideas for modules.

NE Free-mo - W. Springfield, Mass  January 25-26, 2020

Each January, the annual Free-mo layout at the Springfield train show continues to be one of the country’s largest Free-mo layouts assembled. It includes modules from Canada, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. Each show ifeatures changes from year to year so it is always a different experience to view, operate and participate! The layout features multiple yards, a mainline and branch lines, 2 or more return loops and dozens of industries to support operating sessions. This is a great event! To participate, be sure to get in contact with New England Free-mo via their Groups.io home.

Call for Modules - Timonium  Maryland (Oct 26-27, 2019)

At each Great Scale Model Train Show in Timonium, Maryland, there is usually a Free-mo layout setup. The host is Capitol Free-mo and participation gets you into the show for free! Contact the Capitol Free-mo group for more information, or use the e-mail link below to contact NJ Free-mo for more information. The shows that have Free-mo layouts are in February, April and October.

Capitol Free-mo is placing an emphasis on trying to get other groups to participate in the October show.

Members of the Albany Free-mo group are hosting a Free-mo layout on-site at the NER's Fall Convention, Empire Junction, between September 19 and 22, 2019. Geoff Dunn is coordinating the event. It is planned that the layout will host numerous operating sessions during the convention.

Setup will take place on Thursday the 19th, and it will be taken down Saturday afternoon the 21st. Between these times the layout will be on display and operational.

Bordentown Train Show Dec 2018

After a successful showing again in December of 2017 at the annual Bordentown Train Show, NJ Free-mo plans to return again with Free-mo modules amongst the many operating layouts. The show runs throughout December. Included this year will be Mike Prokop's Linden Street module and Bill Grosse's Yardville module, both multi-sectional modules, along with some custom mini-mo sections for curves and a staging yard. Visitors are encouraged to run trains, with ongoing prototypical operations planned throughout the month.

The train show will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December from 4pm to 8pm (except Christmas Day). The location is the Old City Hall Building, 13 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown City, NJ.

Email Group Moved to Groups.io

The NJ Free-mo group has maintained a mailing list on Yahoo for the past few years. Due to many issues with Yahoo support and service of the platform, many groups have moved to the groups.io platform, hosted by the original creator of Yahoo Groups (previously eGroups and OneList). NJ Free-mo followed suit in February of 2018. At that time the existing Yahoo Group was closed. Check out NJ Free-mo on groups.io and subscribe - Click here. ~ Mike Mc.

NJ Free-mo Name badges

Bill Grosse has been able to create cool plastic name badges that can be attached to a lanyard. These identify you by name and include the NJ Free-mo logo. Contact Bill to find out about getting one! ~ Mike Mc.

NJ Free-mo Module Name tags

I created a simple name tag and module tag that uses the NJ Free-mo logo. I created this in the Apple word processing program Pages. I have posted that document here and you can download it and edit the module and owner names to print your own. I also exported a MS Word 97-2004 document in case that is needed. ~ Mike Mc.

NJ Free-mo Paint Color

Being the first of the group to get a module completed, I picked out a color to paint my benchwork and legs. I went with a dark green color called Submarine. If anyone wants to match this color, the paint is Olympic and was purchased from Lowe’s. The paint chip card is D64-5. ~ Mike Mc.

UPDATE: It seems Lowe’s no longer carries Olympic paint, so getting this exact color is tougher. However Glyn Thomas shared this web page that lets you find a suitable alternative from dozens of other paint brands. Check out this page for Olympic Submarine comparables: https://encycolorpedia.com/5d625e

NJ Free-mo Logo

With some help from my son, who has been learning to use graphic arts tools at school, we now have a NJ Free-mo logo. If you need a copy to print module nameplates or name tags, let me know and I can e-mail you are larger version suitable for printing. ~ Mike Mc.
